Pics From Mardi Gras Past Part 1

Mardi Gras 2006 was the first post-K carnival season. I was of the opinion at the time that the city just was not ready. Way too much of town was uninhabited and uninhabitable; much of the devastation lay in traditional parade areas such as Endymion’s Mid-City route. How would the rest of the world believe we were in need if we were throwing a party like nothing happened?

Heads other than mine prevailed. The powers that be decided it was more important to show we could pull it off, and after we did pull it off, I decided they were right.

We caught the combined Bacchus/Endymion parade at its source on Napoleon and Tchoupitoulas, the Tipitina’s corner. Here are some pics of the parade and sights from the street.

Apparently satire is not something you only find on a float.

That was an amazing Mardi Gras for me. The first one for my sister and her first extended visit here. The craziness kicks into high gear tonight as I am working on my Mardi Gras costume with some friends.
